Through the vision of the Time to Play Foundation founder and long time Port Jefferson Station / Terryville community resident, Doreen Guma, who has created the Enjoy Life Community™ Project, our Community – the hamlets of Port Jefferson Station and Terryville, has been engaged and involved. This Enjoy Life Community™ is a program of the non-political non-profit Time to Play Foundation.
The Enjoy Life Community Project website, Facebook and email blasts have been a source of support for residents, businesses and municipalities alike.
Through the efforts of ‘our Community’ friends like Dina Simoes, who serves as the in-person liasion to the school district, the civic, the pta, crime awareness group, and other organizations, we have participated in a number of events. Much has happened since the installation of our Enjoy Life Community sign January 22, 2015, at the Chamber of Commerce Rail Road Car, corner of Rte 112 and Nesconset Highway in Port Jefferson Station.
To help beautify and protect, The Enjoy Life Community™ of Port Jefferson Station / Terryville held a massive clean up at the Washington Avenue park in the Norwood Avenue section in May. Even though it really, really, really rained that day, we had almost 60 people participate. Thank you to Bethpage Federal Credit Union for sponsoring the “Event Signs” and Enjoy Life Ambassador t-shirt design. The cleanup was in coordination with the Great Brookhaven Clean up and national Keep America Beautiful events that month. Special thanks to Craig den Hartog from Old Town Blooms who went above and beyond with his plant donations, supplies and staff, in this location and at the Steven Crowley Memorial Park, School Street Park and other locations along Old Town Road in our hamlet.
In June Dina and The Enjoy Life Community of Port Jefferson Station / Terryville coordinated with Comsewogue High School principal, Joe Coniglione, for an exciting paper lantern send off at the High School graduation. It involved over 60 of our neighbors, friends, members of our community’s groups, parents and Brookhaven Town Councilwoman Valerie Cartright.
The Enjoy Life Comunity of Port Jefferson Station / Terryville helped advertise the Cumsewogue Historical Society Open House/ Museum Days which were a huge success Saturdays in August, at the Terryville Union Hall on Terryvile Road. Folks came from near and far to see poster sized photographs and learn about the history of Terryville, Echo and Port Jefferson Station.
In July, our Community formed a walk/run club that met at the JFK track afternoons and mornings. Initially inspired by the wishes of local firefighter who was training to run in the ‘Tunnel to Towers’ race, it was a way for folks to come together , share news and get healthy. We’d like to make this a continuous program, but need some community volunteers to coordinate and get the word out.
We are currently working on supporting the School-Business Partnership program at Comsewogue High School as well as providing community service opportunities for students. If you are in business-employee or employer or work in any capacity at theTown, County, State or Federal level, please contact us for an opportunity to assist with this program.
You are encouraged to add your events to our ‘calendar’ page on our website.
And, please check out the FREE Empower Half Hour internet radio podcast link for times and topics of the Foundation’s upcoming shows. If you can’t listen and participate live (call in to join in the discussion 646-200-0848) the shows are recorded to listen at any time on demand.
